Cuzco painting is characterized by the use of exclusively religious themes, the lack of perspective and the predominance of red, yellow and earth colors. They are also notable for their abundant use of gold leaf, especially with images of the Virgin Mary. They often adapted the themes to represent their native flora and fauna as a backdrop to their works. Arquebus angels became a popular motif in Cusco paintings.

Cusco Colonial Painting

The Cuzco school is a famous school of painting that emerged in the viceregal city of Cuzco. It was perhaps the most important in Spanish colonial America; It is characterized by its originality and its great value and the artistic result of the confluence of two powerful currents: the Western artistic tradition, and the desire of indigenous and mestizo painters to express their reality and their vision of the world.
